28m Cheoy Lee motor yacht demolished following Fort Lauderdale fire

7 May 2024

The 28-metre Cheoy Lee superyacht Self Made has now been demolished. The yacht suffered extensive damage following a fire at Yacht Haven Marina in Fort Lauderdale on 12 October 2023.

"Following the incident, Self Made was towed up the New River to our Fort Lauderdale facility," explained Ryan Swart of Yacht Management South Florida. "Boats always tend to sit for a while after they are delivered to us, as the insurance companies must conduct their fire investigations."

He continued: "The vessel was destroyed via an excavator and broken down into scraps, which were then hauled away."

The initial incident was reported at 10.30pm and fire crews were met with "heavy fire", according to a statement by the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue service.

The flames were brought under control quickly and extinguished within two hours of emergency services' arrival on the scene. No injuries were reported.
